3 Days Backpacking Trail
THREATENED WILDLIFE PATROL
Siyafunda offers a unique backpacking experience. Come and join our team of field rangers on their walking patrols through the Greater Makalali Nature Reserve and assist them with monitoring of our threatened big game. It is a 3 day patrol with specific goals of locating our large and endangered animals, elephant, rhino, buffalo and lions and recording their conditions and locations ,reporting this information
to our anti-poaching unit and the reserve management.
5% of all bookings goes to The Rhino Protection Trust.
The days will be spent tracking these animals using traditional tracking techniques and with the use of telemetry radio trackers. It will require a relatively high level of fitness and stamina. You will experience life as a field ranger and the learn tracking and trailing skills.
The Greater Makalali Nature Reserve is 25000 Hectares with a perimeter of over 90km, it is a vast area to patrol and protect. This experience aims to incorporate
a wilderness trail with the needs to protect the animals.
Groups required to be minimum of 4 guests (Less than 4 is welcome but would
be required to pay for 4) up to maximum of 8 guests and led by two armed and experienced guides.
